2014 Mercedes MLC Crossover SUV Coupe – According to German magazine AutoBild, Mercedes-Benz is working on a new product that will compete against the BMW X6. Dubbed MLC, the Mercedes Coupe Crossover is built on the ML-Klasse platform, but with design cues inspired from the current CLS. German luxury car manufacturer has announced the opening of a new plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with an investment of U.S. $ 350 million. The plant is projected to produce the latest models from Mercedes-Benz. “The new plant is rumored to new variants of the MLC,” said Autocar magazine. One of the new variant is a potential competitor BMW X6.

The plan’s challenger X6 is going equipped Mercedes engine turbocharger 3.5-liter V6, 4.6-liter V8. There is also a 3.0-liter diesel engines and diesel hybrid. “New model of the Tuscaloosa plant is an important element of our growth strategy,” said Dieter Zietsche, Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “There will be ten additional models which we will introduce in the next four years for all segments,” he added.

Additionally, the report says Mercedes is planning an AMG version that could develop over 544 horsepower, and using the latest technologies from their high-end vehicles. MLC will also benefit from the all-wheel drive system found in the M-Class, but with less stiffer suspensions and a geared towards to “regular roads” driving. Details and pricing are yet to be finalized, but the rumormill churns out a based price of around 62,000 euros. BMW X6 some success in the marketplace, since the sale in 2009 has sold more than 120 thousand units. Audi is also preparing to bring Q6 in 2016.
